I'm a writer and editor. My book Reading the World: Confessions of a Literary Explorer, inspired by my year-long journey through a book from every country, was published in the UK by Harvill Secker and as The World Between Two Covers: Reading the Globe in the US by Liveright/Norton in 2015.
My next book is a novel, a literary psychological drama called Beside Myself. It was published worldwide in English by Bloomsbury in 2016 and has so far been bought by publishers in eight other language territories.
In 2017, I was delighted to take up a Royal Literary Fund fellowship at the University of Kent, where I work two days a week, helping students of all levels and disciplines to improve their writing.
I graduated from Cambridge University with a first-class degree in English literature and went on to do a master's in creative writing at UEA. I also have training in sub-editing from the London College of Communication and a postgraduate diploma with distinction from the London School of Journalism.
